This was the best find on our honeymoon. Katie and I ate here for breakfast half of the days we were on Kauai! (Even though our hotel was 40 minutes away)
The restaurant is a very small building with no real seating inside. Not that you would want to sit inside. The wonderful outdoor patio seating has tree cover.
The coffee is dark and strong. The food is amazing.
The Coconut Macadamia Nut French Toast was as good as it looks! No, that is no whipped cream on the top. That is, my friend, a coconut panna cotta. The heat of the french toast causes it to melt and spread its wonderful creaminess through the dish. Toasting the macadamia nuts is a very nice touch bringing a nice caramelization aspect. And speaking of caramel, that’s not regular maple syrup in that tin…
Holy Loco Moco! That’s not what it is called on the menu, but it may as well be! This Hawaiian staple is heavenly! Now while I don’t consider myself a connoisseur of Loco Mocos, this was the best one I had while in the islands. The gravy reminded me of a very flavorful rich salisbury steak sauce.
Cafe Anuenue provides several of Hawaiian hot sauces by Kauai Juice Company, and this burrito is a wonderful vehicle to try each and every flavor!
Fried rice? For Breakfast? Ya darn tootin right! Katie still talks about this dish, and how wonderful it was. The smokey pork, the bright sweet pineapple, balancing each other out and providing bite after bite of yummy goodness. Just look at how happy she is!
